Pony Rides and Animal Farm at Lawton Stables
ANIMAL FARM RENOVATION PROJECT
Beginning Monday March 9, 2026, the farm that our small animals call home will undergo a much-needed renovation! Though the Lowcountry is a beautiful place to live, it can be challenging area to manage a large herd of animals. We have battled mud and drainage issues in our animal farm for decades, often having to completely relocate the animals to different areas due to unsuitable conditions following heavy rains. We have worked diligently with a team of engineers and excavating companies to plan the complete resurfacing, regarding, and upgrading of our animal farm pens and houses. We will also be replacing all the fences during this time.
Please bear with us as we navigate the challenges that come with such a large undertaking- here are some answers to frequently asked questions!
Will you still be offering pony rides during construction?
Yes, we have relocated our pony ride operation to a new area to keep all ponies and riders safely out of the construction zone.
Riders will continue to sign up for pony rides at the Lawton Stables office where they will receive directions to the new departure point. See map below.

Where are the ponies and Woody the Clydesdale living during construction?
Woody and the ponies are here and ready to greet customers for pony rides in the field across Greenwood Drive next to Heritage Garden.
Where are the small animals living during construction?
The small animals will be living in our front pony pasture for the duration of construction. Guests will still be able to meet our furry friends and purchase animal feed in the Lawton Stables office. The fenceline along our driveway and Greenwood Drive will be accessible to pet and feed the animals.
How long will the project take?
This is dependent on many factors, some of which are out of our control (i.e., weather) but we are hoping to be finished up in early May 2026.
Will you be open for trail rides during construction?
Yes, please come out and see us! We will be keeping a close eye on the work being completed and will pause during mount-up times if needed to keep everyone safe. We do not anticipate much interruption, if any, in this area of the farm.
Where can we find updates?
Follow us on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok to follow along with the project.
Thank you for your patience!
